The term "Twinkie" is used to describe an Asian American who has become completely integrated into mainstream American culture, shedding traditional Asian values.
This work is a self-portrait illustrating my experience with bicultural identity. Both arms twist back with inquisitive fingers reaching towards opposing ends of the backbone to unzip skin along the spine, revealing the presence of the 'other' culture—the hidden yet indispensable second self.
